Civic seal alignment

Youth and Government may help students meet criteria their school uses for state civic seals. Schools decide what counts and award the seal. We provide participation letters with hours and roles.

New York

NYSED Seal of Civic Readiness

6 points; the school's Seal committee decides. Possible: extracurricular participation of 40 or more hours (0.5), a High School Civics Project through an extracurricular (1.5) and Service Learning of 25 or more hours (1). New York moves to a single diploma starting 2027 to 2028; details may change.

Connecticut

State Seal of Civics Education and Engagement

Public Act 26-1, Class of 2027 onward; local boards opt in. Includes civics coursework, a civic engagement experience such as a civic organization, and civics proficiency (a portfolio is allowed).

Rhode Island

Civic Literacy Act

Requires a student-led civics project for the Class of 2028 onward. A state seal is recommended but not yet available.
